McGuireWoods successfully defended client Devon Energy in a $70 million tort dispute, winning a complete defense verdict on Nov. 14, 2024, following a two-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

After a trial that included more than 600 exhibits and testimony from 16 witnesses, the jury needed just 15 minutes to rule in Devon’s favor.

Enable Mississippi River Transmission LLC sued Devon, alleging that Devon wrongfully produced gas that migrated from Enable’s underground storage facility into Devon’s nearby production field in northern Louisiana. Devon operated the production field from 2003 to 2014.

Partner Thomas Farrell led the McGuireWoods trial team in Enable Mississippi River Transmission LLC v. Devon Energy Production Co., which included partner Gregory DuBoff and associate Ryan Frankel.

“We were proud to represent Devon Energy in this matter and pleased with the swift and decisive response from the jury,” Farrell said.
