A Long Island man has been sentenced for a series of domestic violence incidents. On November 11, 2024, Reginald Fayton, aged 60, received a life sentence plus an additional 48 years in prison. A jury found him guilty of several charges including Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. The sentencing took place in New Castle County Superior Court.
The charges stem from multiple cases related to domestic violence incidents that culminated in the shooting of Fayton's estranged partner in New Castle, Delaware, in 2023. The court considered his extensive history of domestic violence when determining the sentence.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings commented on the case: “This was a just result for a grave pattern of crime that could have so easily ended in tragedy.” She added that it is remarkable the victim survived such an attack and acknowledged the long-lasting consequences of domestic violence trauma. Jennings expressed gratitude to her team and the New Castle County Police for their work in achieving this outcome.
The incidents began on February 12, 2023, when Fayton entered the victim’s home without permission and assaulted her before stealing her firearm. While out on bail for this assault, he entered her apartment again on July 2, waiting for her return. Upon her arrival on July 3, he confronted her and shot her 12 times at close range. The victim was hospitalized at Christiana Hospital but continues to suffer from her injuries.
