Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the convictions of Alfreda Janapril Fluker for capital murder and attempted murder. Fluker, a Birmingham police officer, was convicted by the Jefferson County Circuit Court on February 6, 2023.

The trial revealed that on April 10, 2020, Fluker followed her boyfriend to a park where she saw him with another woman in his vehicle. Fluker fired shots at the vehicle, resulting in the death of the female passenger. During the trial, Fluker acknowledged killing the victim but argued her actions did not amount to capital murder.

Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr’s office prosecuted the case and secured guilty verdicts. Fluker received a forty-year prison sentence and appealed to have her convictions overturned.

The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division managed the case during the appeal process, advocating for affirmation of Fluker's convictions. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals confirmed these convictions on November 8, 2024.

Attorney General Marshall praised Assistant Attorney General John J. Davis for his effective handling of the case and expressed gratitude to District Attorney Danny Carr and his team for their support in maintaining the convictions.
