National Recovery Month, observed every September, aims to educate Americans about the benefits of substance use treatment and mental health services. It celebrates the achievements of those living in recovery. In support of this initiative, courthouses across the country displayed purple throughout September 2020.
On September 10, Somerset County Circuit Court's Adult Recovery Court program held its inaugural graduation ceremony for three participants. The event was presided over by County Administrative Judge Daniel W. Powell and Richard “Gray” Barton, Maryland Judiciary Program Director for Problem-Solving Courts. Family members attended virtually via Zoom. A notable moment during the ceremony involved a young participant whose grandfather serves as a sheriff's deputy within the court system.
