Montgomery County District Judge Patricia L. Mitchell has been appointed as the Administrative Judge for District 6 of the District Court of Maryland, effective July 1. The appointment follows the retirement of Judge Eugene Wolfe, who served in the role for 11 years. Chief Judge John P. Morrissey made the designation after consulting with Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera.
"Judge Mitchell is ideally prepared for this new role," said District Court Chief Judge Morrissey. "She brings substantial expertise from the bench and has exemplified great stewardship of the Judiciary’s commitment to fair and accessible justice for all."
Chief Judge Barbera expressed gratitude towards Judge Wolfe for his service and confidence in Judge Mitchell's ability to continue his work: "I am confident Judge Mitchell will build on his achievements to provide effective administration of the District Court facilities and services in Montgomery County."
Judge Mitchell, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, reflected on her career and connection to the area: "It is a unique honor to serve Montgomery County because this is my home." She began her legal career at the Montgomery County District Court and advanced through various roles before being appointed as a judge in 1996.
Her academic credentials include a Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law and an extensive teaching history at several universities. In addition to her judicial duties, she holds positions on several committees within the Maryland Judicial Council.
