Judge Bonnie G. Schneider named administrative judge for Upper Eastern Shore

Cecil County District Judge Bonnie G. Schneider has been appointed as the administrative judge for District 3, covering Caroline, Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot counties. This decision by District Court of Maryland Chief Judge John P. Morrissey received approval from Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera. The appointment will take effect on October 1, 2015.

In her new role, Judge Schneider will lead the judges, officers, and employees in District 3. Her responsibilities include court administration, managing the trial calendar to ensure timely case resolutions, overseeing the district's budget, and implementing MDEC, the Judiciary’s electronic case management system.

Judge Schneider takes over from Judge Stephen J. Baker, who is retiring after 17 years of service and has held the position since May 2007.

“I am very grateful to Judge Baker for his service to the people of Maryland and his excellent management of District 3,” Chief Judge Morrissey said. “Judge Schneider is a worthy successor and brings management skills that make her uniquely qualified to lead the District Court in Caroline, Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot counties.”

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, Judge Schneider was Cecil County’s first female judge and has served as an associate judge since 2008.

“I am honored to be chosen by Chief Judge Morrissey for this new responsibility,” Judge Schneider said. “With thanks to Judge Baker for his leadership, I look forward to building on his example to serve our fellow citizens with respect, courtesy, efficiency and fairness.”
