The Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse in Baltimore remains closed as the Baltimore City Department of General Services (DGS) continues fire restoration efforts. The courthouse has seen significant progress, including the restoration of power and remediation of smoke damage. However, more time is needed to meet all necessary preconditions for full re-occupancy. The building is expected to reopen during the week of May 9, though a specific date has not been set.

Baltimore City Administrative Judge W. Michel Pierson expressed gratitude for the work done by DGS and its contractors: “The work of DGS and its contractors in effecting the restoration of the Mitchell Courthouse has been truly extraordinary, and we are grateful for their recognition of the crucial nature of this task.” He also commended court personnel for maintaining operations with minimal disruption: “I also commend the performance of the court’s personnel -- judges, clerks and staff; their dedication and flexibility has enabled the court to continue to conduct proceedings and provide services with minimal disruption to operations while many of our essential facilities are unavailable.”

In response to the closure, court proceedings and services have been moved to Courthouse East at 111 N. Calvert Street. Jury service notices direct individuals to report instead to The War Memorial Building at 101 North Gay Street.

Specific divisions have been relocated within Courthouse East:

- The Criminal Division is now in Room 451.

- The Land Records and Licensing Divisions are in Room 462.

- The Criminal Assignment Office is in Room 403.

- The Courtroom Clerks Division is located in Room 510.

- The Jury Division is on the first floor in Room 110.

- The Paternity Division and Jury Call Center are on the first floor in Room 111.
