Judge W. Michel Pierson, the administrative judge for the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, has appointed Judge Althea M. Handy to lead the court’s civil docket. This appointment took effect on December 1.
“Judge Handy brings excellent leadership and management skills to this new assignment,” stated Judge Pierson, who had overseen the civil docket since 2009. “I have the rare opportunity of appointing my successor, and I have every confidence in handing over these duties to Judge Handy.”
In her new role as judge-in-charge, Judge Handy will oversee the assignment of judges and manage the civil docket.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this position and look forward to the challenge. I hope to follow Judge Pierson’s fine example,” expressed Judge Handy.
Judge Handy has been serving on the Baltimore City Circuit Court bench since December 2002. Prior to her judicial appointment, she was an Assistant State’s Attorney for Baltimore City from 1987-2002. During that time, she worked as a senior prosecutor in the homicide division and served as division chief of the sex offense unit from 1999-2002. She obtained her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1986.
