Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has achieved a significant legal victory in his lawsuit against the Biden Administration. The case involves allegations of unlawful censorship of American media companies by the federal government. A federal district court judge has denied the administration's request to dismiss the lawsuit and has ordered expedited discovery.
The lawsuit, initiated in December 2023, targets the U.S. Department of State, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and other officials. It accuses them of conspiring to censor, deplatform, and demonetize media outlets not favored by the government. The allegations focus on the "Global Engagement Center," which was originally intended to counter foreign propaganda but is claimed to have been used to limit domestic news organizations' reach and viability through funding censorship technology.
Attorney General Paxton stated, "The Biden Administration made a reprehensible attempt to censor the American press with funding intended to monitor foreign propaganda, aiming to repress viewpoints the federal government disagreed with." He further criticized the use of taxpayer money for what he described as a "censorship apparatus."
