A Wilmington man has admitted guilt in connection with the 2018 murder of Richard Young. On April 22, Nasir Anderson, aged 24, entered a guilty plea to charges including Murder Second Degree, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony, Robbery First Degree, and Conspiracy Second Degree in New Castle County Superior Court. This plea concludes a six-year investigation into his role in the home invasion and subsequent murder of Richard Young on Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings commented on the outcome: “This is a just result on a years-old, heinous murder. Both our prosecutors and the Wilmington Police refused to give up, and after years of single-minded dedication, we are bringing justice for the deceased and his family. On to the sentencing.”

Chief Wilfredo Campos acknowledged the efforts behind this resolution: “This guilty plea is the result of an investigation that was continued by members of our Cold Case Unit, and I appreciate the work they do to help bring justice – and hopefully some degree of closure – to the family members of murder victims.”

The crime occurred on February 25, 2018, when Anderson and an accomplice broke into Young’s apartment with handguns and ski masks intending to commit robbery. During this incident, Young was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries. The Wilmington Police Department initially investigated but as time passed without resolution, it became a cold case. In 2023, renewed efforts by the WPD Cold Case Unit identified Anderson as a suspect. The second suspect was later found to have been killed in July 2018.

Anderson faced indictment in February 2023. A Pre-Sentence Investigation has been ordered with sentencing set for June 28, 2024.
