In Oklahoma City, Attorney General Gentner Drummond has announced the winners of the inaugural Attorney General’s Outstanding Officer of the Year Award. The initiative, launched in May to recognize exceptional law enforcement officers across Oklahoma, received 44 nominations. Judges from various levels of criminal justice selected four regional winners, one of whom will be named as the statewide Officer of the Year for 2024 next month.
“These four individuals reflect the courage, selflessness and unwavering commitment that is representative of Oklahoma’s law enforcement community,” said Drummond. “I congratulate the regional winners for their extraordinary work and thank them for their steadfast dedication to public safety.”
The winners include Detective Cunningham from the Oklahoma City Police Department, recognized for her investigative work on a triple murder case linked to biker gangs. Trooper Fry from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol was acknowledged for his actions during a high-speed chase involving an armed robbery suspect. Officer Gomez from Norman Police Department was honored for his comprehensive police work and life-saving actions during emergency calls. Deputy Murray from Bryan County Sheriff's Office was awarded following his response to a domestic disturbance where he was injured but managed to subdue an armed suspect.
All nominees and regional winners will be celebrated at a reception on December 2 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, where the state Officer of the Year will be announced.
