Mark Goldstein named Human Storyteller of the Year

Webp award

Trophy | In collaboration with Katelyn Perry

Reed Smith Labor & Employment partner Mark Goldstein has won the Human Storyteller of the Year Award from TLC Lions. The award honors standout individuals who have “displayed tremendous courage by sharing their personal story within the workplace,” according to the organization. “A human Storyteller breaks down barriers, empowers others to find their voice, and, in doing so, fosters a more human culture in their workplace.”

One of five shortlisted in July, Goldstein received the award at the TLC Lions Human Awards-Americas 2024 in New York City on Oct. 30. Goldstein was lauded for his impactful 2019 article in The American Lawyer, “‘Scared. Ashamed. Crippled.’—How One Lawyer Overcame Living with Depression in Big Law,” which TLC Lions said “ignited a movement, leading to thousands of conversations about mental wellness.”

“His dedication is reshaping perceptions and breaking down stigma within the legal profession,” TLC Lions said in its profile of Goldstein.

Goldstein also was honored for his, “transformative advocacy for mental health in the legal industry,” and for “fostering a supportive culture where mental health is prioritized.”

Over the last five years, Goldstein has made a significant impact leading the firm’s global Mental Health Task Force, which he helped launch in 2020 to advise on policies, practices, programming, education, services, resources and awareness-raising around issues of well-being in the profession. Reed Smith was among the first law firms in the United States to create such a comprehensive, in-house mental health initiative.

TLC Lions further commended Goldstein for his overall advocacy, including spearheading the firm’s annual Mental Health Summit, now in its fourth year, and its groundbreaking Law Student Mental Health Summit.
