Fox Rothschild congratulates Daniel I. Spencer on his selection to Variety’s esteemed Hollywood New Leaders list, which recognizes “undersung individuals who provide the connective tissue between idea and execution, messenger and message, property and platform.”
An associate in the firm’s Entertainment & Sports Law Department, Spencer helps clients navigate issues involving traditional and emerging media, structuring and negotiating deals for creative artists, producers, directors, writers, executives, financiers and production companies.
When asked about the reduction in studio feature film and television production, and the future of the entertainment industry, Spencer emphasized that there are “still deals to be made”—particularly for those interested in looking beyond what has historically been deemed "entertainment" by following the trends of how individuals consume media.
“Even if traditional media is slowing down, there is so much user-generated content out there and deals to be made surrounding that,” Spencer told Variety, including “multimillion, sometimes billion-dollar deals surrounding podcasts.”
In the past year, Spencer has advised Bloomberg Media in the management, license and exploitation of its intellectual property catalogue, as well as its original production slate, including its deal for the podcast “The Deal With Alex Rodriguez and Jason Kelly.”
Variety also highlighted his negotiation of two-time Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s agreement to serve as the first female director of a “Star Wars” film.
