Holland & Knight welcomes Kimberly Smith, an experienced transactional lawyer with a focus on New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC), commercial lending and real estate finance, as a partner in the firm's Tax Credit & Community Development Finance Practice in New York. Most recently, Ms. Smith was a partner at Butler Snow.

Ms. Smith has a broad transactional tax practice that includes extensive experience with structuring complex NMTC financing transactions for 501(c)(3) organizations, real estate developers, operating businesses and government entities. Many of these project sponsors utilize conventional financing, tax-exempt bonds, state and federal grants and/or U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) financing, which are regulatory programs Ms. Smith can skillfully navigate. She represents borrowers and project developers looking to make a meaningful economic impact in their community, such as healthcare, education, mixed-use, social services, and industrial and manufacturing projects. She also serves as bank or borrower counsel in non-NMTC commercial lending and tax-exempt bond financing transactions for 501(c)(3) organizations.

"Kim is an excellent attorney with robust experience involving transactions financed in part by tax credit equity arising from the NMTC, which aligns nicely with our group's central focus," said Ted Hickey, leader of Holland & Knight's Tax Credit Syndication Group. "In addition to being well-known and respected in our industry, her broad tax and transactional experience will ensure we have the resources to address our clients' most challenging issues."

"I am thrilled to join Holland & Knight and such a talented NMTC team," said Ms. Smith. "I look forward to expanding my practice by taking advantage of the vast resources Holland & Knight has to offer, while offering the opportunity to support additional practice areas for the firm."

Ms. Smith earned a J.D. degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law, an LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law and a B.A. degree from Birmingham Southern College. She is admitted to practice in New York, Massachusetts, Louisiana and Mississippi.
