Bradley is pleased to announce that Lina Machado Bejarano, an associate in the firm’s Atlanta office, has been named the recipient of the firm’s 2024 Cameron J. Miller Award for Excellence and Community Service. The award is named for, and given in memory of, Cameron Miller, who passed away in June 2012 after battling cancer during his first year as an attorney at Bradley.
The annual award is given to an associate who exemplifies excellence in his or her legal work coupled with a high degree of involvement in community service, striving to improve the community in which they live and work. The award includes a donation to a charity in memory of Mr. Miller. This year, a $10,000 donation will be made to the Georgia State University College of Law Immigration Clinic, the organization selected by Ms. Machado Bejarano.
“Lina is an exemplary attorney who consistently demonstrates her commitment to excellence in her profession and in bettering the local community through advocacy and volunteerism,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Jonathan M. Skeeters. “We are proud to honor Lina with this award and to be able to continue recognize Cam’s legacy each year.”
A member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, Ms. Machado Bejarano concentrates her practice on helping clients resolve disputes in court, as well as before alternative dispute resolution bodies, and providing strategic assistance to her clients in a variety of civil matters. Her experience includes serving as a judicial law clerk and an attorney advisor for the United States Department of Justice through the Attorney General Honors Program.
Ms. Machado Bejarano is deeply involved with the Latino legal community, regularly providing support to the professional development of Latino law students. She serves on Georgia Latino Law Foundation’s (GLLF) board and is the co-founder and co-director of the GLLF’s Judicial Internship Program, which was created during the pandemic to help provide meaningful summer experiences for students whose summer positions were impacted. She also provides instrumental support to the organization’s Leadership Academy and Law Day and is a valuable mentor within the organization and to students at her alma mater, Georgia State College of Law. Ms. Machado Bejarano regularly performs pro bono work for Kids in Need of Defense, an international nongovernmental organization devoted to the protection of unaccompanied and separated children, and also contributes her time to the Georgia Justice Project in its Pardon Clinic for non-violent offenders.
In October, Ms. Machado Bejarano was presented with the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association’s (GHBA) 2024 Rising Star Award for her outstanding contributions to the GHBA and Georgia Latino Community. She was also selected as a “Rising Star” in the 2024 edition of Georgia Super Lawyers.
Bradley established the Cameron J. Miller Award for Excellence and Community Service in conjunction with Mr. Miller’s parents, Frank and Alice Miller, and family friends, Charlie and Sheri Perry, along with their daughter Katherine. Through the award, Mr. Miller’s contributions and service to the firm and the community will continue to be recognized in a tangible way.
