Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell has issued the following statement on the results of the 2024 Presidential Election:

“Donald Trump is our President-elect, and I want to remind constituents that it is essential to recognize the will of the people and support a peaceful transition of power as these are central and non-negotiable tenets to being a democracy. I am also clear-eyed that President-elect Trump has told us exactly what he intends to do as President, and that we need to believe him and to be ready for the challenges ahead. Across the country, attorneys general will be on the front lines to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms, and Massachusetts will continue to be a beacon of light and hope. My office is prepared for the threats our residents may face, ready to act and we will not shy away or back down from the critical work ahead.”

On background:

  • Because we always must be prepared for any threat, our office has been working to identify prospective threats presented by a Trump administration as well as mitigation strategies to best address those threats should they arise. We are prepared and ready for this moment.
  • These strategies could include lawsuits against the administration, motions to intervene in pending cases, leading or joining amicus briefs filed in support of other litigants, and ensuring that we have optimized protections available under state law.
  • Our office is focused on acting against threats to the following subject areas:
    • Rule of law
    • Political violence, hate and discrimination
    • Reproductive rights
    • LGBTQIA+ rights
    • Immigrants’ rights
    • Racial justice
    • Environmental justice
    • Health care
