Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown reassured residents that their rights and freedoms will remain steadfastly protected.

Reaffirming the commitment he made upon taking office, Attorney General Brown pledged to continue defending equity, fairness, and the rule of law for every Marylander. "Two years ago, I ran for Attorney General with a promise to be the people’s lawyer, to represent every Marylander, and to fight for the most vulnerable among us," said Attorney General Brown. "Every day since, I have worked to fulfill that commitment. No matter who sits in the White House, my dedication to protecting the rights and well-being of Maryland’s communities remains unwavering." Building on the authority granted by the General Assembly in 2017 to hold the federal government accountable, Attorney General Brown is prepared to act against any federal actions that threaten Marylanders' rights. Maryland residents can trust that their reproductive freedoms, recently enshrined in the State Constitution, are secure, along with protection for individuals who may face discrimination based on their immigration status, gender identity, or sexual orientation. In addition, the Attorney General’s Office stands ready to protect the health, environment, and safety of all Marylanders.

The Attorney General’s Office will be seeking support from the Governor and General Assembly to establish a federal litigation team to swiftly respond to any federal actions or policies that may harm Marylanders. Key divisions, including the Civil Rights Division and the Office of Equity, Policy, and Engagement, will be central to upholding Maryland’s values of fairness, justice, and equity. "Preserving the rule of law in service of justice for every Marylander remains my highest priority," added Attorney General Brown. "The Office of the Attorney General will continue to use every tool at our disposal to ensure the rights of Marylanders are protected, regardless of changes at the federal level."
