Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated legal action against a second doctor in North Texas for allegedly providing "gender transition" drugs to over a dozen minors. This lawsuit marks the third enforcement action taken by Paxton under Senate Bill 14, which restricts the prescription of such drugs to children.
Previously, Attorney General Paxton filed lawsuits against a Dallas-area doctor and another in El Paso for similar violations. The El Paso case involved interventions on children as young as twelve years old.
Senate Bill 14, effective since September 2023 and upheld by the Texas Supreme Court in June 2024, bans medical interventions like surgeries, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones for minors. The law cites growing scientific evidence suggesting long-term harmful effects of these interventions on children's biological sex characteristics. It also states that these treatments are experimental without proven benefits.
Under SB 14, medical providers face penalties for violations, and the Texas Medical Board is required to revoke the medical license of any physician found guilty of contravening this statute.
In the current case, it is alleged that the Dallas-based doctor continued providing prohibited treatments to minors until September 25. Furthermore, accusations include falsifying medical records and prescriptions to hide illegal activities while encouraging other professionals to adopt similar practices.
Attorney General Paxton emphasized: “Texas has prohibited doctors from prescribing these damaging and unfounded ‘gender transition’ drugs to children,” adding that such actions endanger young people's health.
