Attorney General Michelle Henry has announced the conviction of Antoinette Hodge, a former Uniontown city treasurer, for embezzling over $106,000 in taxpayer funds. The theft occurred between 2020 and 2021.
A jury in Fayette County found Hodge guilty on several charges, including theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and perjury. The case was referred to the Attorney General's Office by the Fayette County District Attorney and investigated with the Forty-Eighth Statewide Investigating Grand Jury.
Hodge is scheduled for sentencing on November 21.
"The defendant was elected to a position of trust in her community. She abused that trust and defrauded taxpayers for her own gain," stated Attorney General Henry. "Prosecuting these crimes is vital to maintaining the integrity of local government. My office will continue to protect taxpayers and ensure that any individual who tries to abuse their position will face the consequences of their actions."
Elected as Uniontown Treasurer in 2019, Hodge was responsible for collecting and depositing funds received by the tax office. During her trial, it was revealed that she failed to deposit more than $106,000 in cash and used it for personal expenses instead. Evidence showed daily expenditures exceeding $1,500 on lottery games.
Hodge did not win re-election and no longer holds the treasurer position.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Kara Rice prosecuted the case.
