North Dakota seeks assistant attorney general; applications close November 15

The North Dakota Office of Attorney General has announced a job opening for the position of Assistant Attorney General. This full-time role, based in Bismarck, ND, offers a salary range between $81,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience. Applications are open to both internal and external candidates until November 15, 2024.

Mary Kae Kelsch, Director of the General Counsel Division, will supervise the selection process. The successful candidate will provide legal advice to several state entities including the North Dakota Public Employee Retirement System and the Department of Financial Institutions. Responsibilities include reviewing contracts, interpreting laws and regulations, and drafting formal opinions.

Applicants should be licensed or expect imminent licensure to practice law in North Dakota. Preferred qualifications include two years of experience in relevant legal fields such as general counsel representation or regulatory law. High ethical standards and excellent communication skills are also required.

The position comes with benefits like fully paid health insurance for employees and their families and participation in state retirement plans. Employees may also qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
