Attorney General Todd Rokita has successfully secured the suspension of an Indianapolis doctor's medical license due to numerous alleged violations. The doctor, Dr. Scott Mimms, faces 114 counts related to breaches of laws governing medical practice and controlled substance prescriptions.

"Hoosier patients have the right to expect their doctors to put their safety and well-being at the top of the priority list," Attorney General Rokita stated. "When a physician performing surgery demonstrates reckless disregard for basic standards of care, he or she must be held accountable."

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspended Dr. Mimms' license on October 24 for a minimum period of two years. This action followed an administrative complaint filed by Attorney General Rokita's office with the board on April 24, 2024.

The board determined that Dr. Mimms failed to exercise reasonable care and diligence in his practice. He was found to have unlawfully prescribed Schedule II controlled substances for weight loss and administered anesthesia in an unaccredited facility without any additional trained providers present during surgeries.

Attorney General Rokita’s office is responsible for investigating complaints against licensed professionals across Indiana. The first consumer complaint against Dr. Mimms was received in August 2022, followed by 34 more complaints.

Attorney General Rokita acknowledged the efforts of Investigators Delaney Walter and Cassie McDaniel, along with Deputy Attorneys General Carah Rochester and Amy Osborne, for their work on this case.
