The Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts (AALAM) presented Holland & Knight with the second annual Ally of the Year award at the AALAM 40th anniversary gala on October 16 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston.
The AALAM Ally of the Year Award recognizes the extraordinary achievements of organizations, including companies, law firms and nonprofit organizations, in supporting the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, bringing attention to the collaborative nature of its work and highlighting valued partners that have stood by AALAM's side.
Holland & Knight has been a longtime supporter of AALAM as a host and sponsor of many events, including its board of directors meetings, trivia nights, annual banquets, and other member receptions and gatherings. This year, Holland & Knight co-sponsored with AALAM a "fireside chat" with Dr. Karen Korematsu, founder and president of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute and the daughter of the late civil rights icon Fred Korematsu, in celebration of Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution.
In addition to its support of AALAM, Holland & Knight has provided pro bono representation to many AAPI community organizations in the Greater Boston area, including the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Massachusetts Asian + Pacific Islanders (MAP) for Health and Friends of Reggie Wong Park Inc. Holland & Knight's nationwide Asian and Pacific Islander Affinity Group also works to promote the professional development and mentoring of its AAPI attorneys and staff and brings visibility to both internal and external contributions to diversity and inclusion efforts by the firm, its clients and partners.
