Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced plans to appeal a recent decision regarding Oklahoma's anti-ESG law to the state Supreme Court. The announcement followed an Oklahoma County judge's summary judgment against the law, known as the Oklahoma Energy Discrimination Act of 2022.

Drummond expressed dissatisfaction with State Treasurer Todd Russ's handling of the case, stating, "I am committed to repairing the damage done by the Treasurer and his hand-picked attorney. Frankly, Oklahomans deserved better than allowing this law to be jeopardized."

The legislation in question restricts state contracts and pension investments with financial institutions that are perceived to discriminate against the oil and gas industry. In May, Drummond assumed responsibility for defending the lawsuit from Treasurer Russ.

The act is being contested by a retired state employee who argues it endangers his pension.
