Chief Judge John Michael Guidry of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal has been appointed as Secretary-Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal (CCJSCA). His term, which lasts one year, commenced on October 27 during the CCJSCA Annual Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina.

The CCJSCA, established in 1980, aims to offer consultation and education to leaders within state intermediate appellate courts. The organization focuses on enhancing justice administration by sharing ideas, learning about effective programs, and promoting efficiency and fiscal responsibility in appellate courts.

Louisiana Supreme Court Chief Justice John L. Weimer remarked, “This recognition of Chief Judge John Michael Guidry is well deserved. He has been a dedicated public servant, son to his mom, husband, and father. The depth and breadth of his service to the Judiciary of Louisiana, his community, and church are remarkable.” He added that this national acknowledgment is consistent with other recognitions received by judges from Louisiana.

Chief Judge Guidry expressed his gratitude for the appointment: “I am deeply honored and humbled by the confidence that has been placed in me by my fellow state appellate court chief judges from throughout the country. I look forward to working in this leadership role to ensure access to our courts and improving the administration of justice.”

Guidry's career on the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal began in 1997, with him assuming the role of chief judge on January 1, 2023. Before his judicial tenure, he served as a member of both the Louisiana State Senate and House of Representatives. His professional history also includes roles as an assistant parish attorney for Baton Rouge City and East Baton Rouge Parish while maintaining a private law practice. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at Southern University Law Center.

The Council comprises chief judges from 40 states with intermediate appellate courts. More information can be found at ccjsca.org.
