Attorney General Michelle Henry announced that Ian Nakonechni, a Greene County resident with a history of domestic violence, has been sentenced to 60 to 120 years in prison. The sentence follows his conviction for the 2022 strangulation and sexual assault of a woman in Jackson Township.
Nakonechni was found guilty by a jury in October 2023 on charges including felony aggravated assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, strangulation, and other related offenses. The Office of Attorney General highlighted Nakonechni's prior four domestic violence convictions when requesting a lengthy prison term.
As part of his sentence, Nakonechni is required to register as a sex offender for life. "This defendant has shown a blatant and cruel disregard for the wellbeing of his partners, and this sentence puts a stop to his reign of domestic violence," said Attorney General Henry. She emphasized the challenges police and prosecutors face with such crimes but noted that law enforcement's efforts have ensured Nakonechni will no longer pose a threat to society.
The Pennsylvania State Police charged Nakonechni for the February 2022 incident on Falling Timber Road in Jackson Township, where he assaulted the victim using various objects. The case was referred to the Office of Attorney General by the Greene County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury convicted Nakonechni on eight felonies and three misdemeanors in October. Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner prosecuted the case.
