Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Jaime M. Vasquez, M.D., and his associated businesses following the sudden closure of the Center for Reproductive Health, P.C. The lawsuit, filed under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act, seeks immediate relief for patients affected by the unexpected suspension of care.
Dr. Vasquez had been providing infertility treatment since the mid-1990s, but earlier this month his clinic shut down without notice. This left many patients in the midst of costly and urgent treatments without guidance or access to their medical records. Concerns also arose regarding the security of stored reproductive materials such as eggs, sperm, and embryos.
The Attorney General's Office obtained a temporary restraining order against Dr. Vasquez and appointed a receiver to manage clinic operations temporarily. Chief Deputy Attorney General Lacey Mase stated, “After investigating numerous complaints about Dr. Vasquez’s failed practice, we moved quickly to limit the risk and ongoing harm to these patients.” She expressed confidence that court-ordered emergency relief would enable patients to access their files and transfer care with assistance from the receiver.
The office is committed to litigating this case fully to protect affected consumer-patients. Patients with concerns are encouraged to contact the Department of Health at tn.health@tn.gov or share information with the Division of Consumer Affairs at consumer.affairs@ag.tn.gov.
