Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has issued a warning to iDentidad Advertising Development LLC, also known as iDentidad Telecom, regarding the transmission of suspected illegal robocall traffic. In a letter sent to the company, Murrill urged them to cease these activities immediately.
“I’m one of the many Louisianans who are sick and tired of robocalls constantly harassing and attempting to steal people’s money, identity, and private information. I’m taking action to protect Louisiana residents,” stated Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Attorney General Murrill is involved with the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, which includes 51 bipartisan attorneys general. This task force is dedicated to investigating and pursuing legal actions against entities responsible for routing illegal robocall traffic within the United States.
On the same day, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued a cease-and-desist order to iDentidad. The task force highlighted that iDentidad had received nearly 200 traceback notices related to calls routed through its network into the U.S., primarily originating from outside the country. These calls were often part of illegal or suspicious robocall campaigns involving scams such as IRS/Social Security Administration impersonations, utility scams, and financial frauds. Notably, some spoofed calls were made impersonating the Illinois Attorney General’s Office directed at non-Illinois residents.
Should iDentidad fail to halt these activities, legal actions may be pursued by the attorneys general involved in this initiative. Potential consequences include seeking damages, civil penalties, and injunctions.
