Attorney General Chris Carr announced the conviction and sentencing of Anthony Brown, Glendarius Tate, and X’Zydric Faust for their roles in the fatal shooting of Ja’Vanni McDavid on March 5, 2023, in Athens, Georgia. The three individuals are members of Everybody Killa (EBK), a criminal street gang based in Athens.

The incident is part of an ongoing violent feud between EBK/Everybody Eats (EBE) and Red Tape Gang (RTG). Attorney General Carr stated, “Those who turn a blind eye to gang activity are only allowing the problem to worsen, and the people of Athens-Clarke County deserve better.” He emphasized that all Georgians deserve safety and pledged continued efforts with law enforcement to combat violent crime.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Ryan Piechocinski prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Gang Task Force. ACCPD Chief Jerry Saulters highlighted the importance of collaboration in removing gang members from Athens-Clarke County streets. GBI Director Chris Hosey added that today's convictions demonstrate a commitment to fighting gang violence.

Since its inception in July 2022, Carr's Gang Prosecution Unit has indicted 21 individuals in nine cases related to the conflict between EBK/EBE and RTG. This includes five shootings in Athens from April 2022 to March 2024.

On March 5, McDavid was shot after leaving a party with friends. Surveillance footage helped identify a white Honda Accord involved in the shooting as belonging to Anthony Brown. Brown admitted to driving the vehicle and firing his weapon. Further investigation identified Glendarius Tate and X’Zydric Faust as occupants who were also armed.

Brown, Tate, and Faust pleaded guilty on September 16, 2024. Each received a sentence of 35 years, with 25 years to be served in prison followed by strict probation.

The State's case against Jaden Appling remains ongoing.

Carr's Gang Prosecution Unit continues its work across various counties since July 1, 2022, securing numerous convictions and indictments statewide.
