Attorney General Liz Murrill, along with attorneys general from 19 other states, has voiced concerns regarding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) recent draft risk evaluation for formaldehyde. The group of attorneys general represents leading agricultural states in the United States.
Murrill stated, "As leading agriculture states in America, we worry that the proposed Final Rule will, in effect, ban formaldehyde and place billions of dollars of livestock at risk of disease, jeopardize the food supply, and threaten the entire agricultural industry."
The coalition is urging the EPA to reconsider its draft evaluation by looking at the best available science and to maintain current regulatory levels. The states involved include Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
