Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has joined 22 other state attorneys general in opposing the Biden Administration's new energy-efficiency standards for stoves and ovens. The rule is expected to increase costs for kitchen appliances across the country.

"This Administration is relentless in its effort to dismantle every facet of American life under the guise of 'environmental progress.' The federal government has no business dictating which appliances Louisiana families use to cook their meals and refrigerate their food," said General Murrill.

The proposed standards for stoves and ovens follow similar regulations on household refrigerators and freezers. These rules were introduced through a "direct final rule" procedure, allowing a federal agency to bypass the usual process of seeking public comments before finalizing a regulation. The comment letter urges the Department of Energy to allow states and consumers an opportunity to critique the rule before it takes effect.

Alongside Attorney General Murrill, attorneys general from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia signed the comment letter.
