Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has initiated legal action against the Biden administration, challenging new regulations imposed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) under the U.S. Department of Justice. The lawsuit alleges that these regulations unlawfully restrict Americans' constitutional right to privately buy and sell firearms.

The legal move is part of a broader effort by a coalition of states including Texas, Mississippi, and Utah. The controversy stems from recent expansions in rules that now require background checks and licenses for private gun sales. Critics argue that this new ATF rule could effectively end gun shows and prevent private firearm transactions between citizens.

The regulations demand that individuals obtain licenses and undergo background checks before selling firearms. Opponents claim this infringes on Second Amendment rights and unjustly categorizes law-abiding gun owners as dealers or criminals simply for participating in private firearm transactions.

Attorney General Liz Murrill voiced strong opposition to the new rules, stating: “These new rules clearly violate the Second Amendment. The Biden administration continues to recklessly attack our constitutional rights. Louisiana will challenge them every step of the way.”
