Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated legal action against a doctor in North Texas, accusing the physician of violating state law by administering prohibited "gender transition" treatments to minors. The lawsuit alleges that nearly two dozen children received these treatments.
The case revolves around Senate Bill 14, a law enacted in September 2023 and upheld by the Texas Supreme Court in June 2024. This legislation bans medical interventions related to "gender transition," including surgeries, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones for individuals under the age of 18. According to the state's argument, there is significant scientific evidence suggesting that such interventions can have harmful long-term effects on children. The treatments are also described as experimental with no proven benefits.
In line with this law, the Texas Medical Board is mandated to revoke the medical license or authorization of any physician found in violation of SB14's provisions.
The Office of the Attorney General presented evidence indicating that a Dallas-area doctor provided high-dose cross-sex hormones to twenty-one minors for transitioning purposes. It is alleged that false diagnoses and billing codes were used to conceal these actions.
Attorney General Paxton stated, "Texas passed a law to protect children from these dangerous unscientific medical interventions that have irreversible and damaging effects." He further emphasized that physicians continuing such practices will face full legal consequences.
