Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser issued a statement regarding the nine-year sentence given to former county clerk Tina Peters for election tampering.

"We place a sacred trust in our elections officials to conduct safe, honest, and fair elections. Tina Peters violated her duty as an election official and seriously compromised trust with her fellow Coloradans," said Weiser. "Today, the court handed down a fair and just sentence for her criminal acts, which put the safety of our elections—and the freedom and safety of others—at risk."

Weiser also expressed gratitude towards Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein for his commitment to justice. "I am grateful for Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein’s commitment to justice and his collaboration with my office to hold Tina Peters accountable," he stated.

The Attorney General emphasized that this sentencing serves as a warning against illegal tampering with voting processes or election systems. "Today’s sentencing is a warning to others that they will face consequences if they attempt to illegally tamper with our voting processes or election systems. My office will continue to protect our elections and the freedom to vote."
