The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently investigating a death that occurred in the Village of Caledonia, Wisconsin. The incident took place on the evening of Monday, September 30, 2024.

At around 9:03 p.m., Racine police officers attempted to stop a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run earlier that day. The driver did not comply, leading officers to initiate a pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree at high speed near the intersection of Four Mile Road and Main Street in Caledonia. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by law enforcement, the driver died at the scene.

The officers involved are on administrative leave as per agency policy and were wearing body cameras during the incident.

The DCI is leading the investigation with assistance from several agencies including the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit, Village of Caledonia Police Department, Racine County Medical Examiner’s Office, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All involved law enforcement personnel are cooperating fully with DCI.

The DCI continues to review evidence and gather facts related to this incident. Once their investigation is complete, they will submit their findings to the Racine County District Attorney for further action.
