A Florida man has been arrested on charges of election fraud in Kansas. George Andrews, 30, from Dade City, Florida, was taken into custody on February 10 for allegedly forging signatures on petitions to make “No Labels” an officially recognized political party in Kansas.
“The arrested individual was part of a scheme to defraud Kansas voters by placing their forged signatures on petitions. In Kansas, we take election fraud seriously, and we will prosecute every case where the evidence indicates a crime has been committed beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach.
The arrest followed an extensive investigation conducted by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. Andrews faces two counts of election perjury and 28 counts of election forgery. He was arrested in Dade City, Florida, and is pending extradition to Kansas, where he will appear in Johnson County District Court.
In 2015, the legislature granted the Attorney General’s Office and the Secretary of State’s Office the authority to prosecute election crimes in Kansas. During his tenure as Secretary of State, Kobach successfully prosecuted 12 cases of election fraud involving double voting and non-citizen voting. Kobach is now the first Kansas Attorney General to use this authority to prosecute election crimes.
Andrews is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
