Holland & Knight advised multiple clients in their application and selection for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing Grant Program, securing nearly one-third of the funding awarded. Holland & Knight's clients represent $927 million of the $3 billion in awards announced today.
The Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing Program, which is administered by the DOE's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains, is designed to provide grants aimed at ensuring the United States has a robust and viable battery supply chain. This program aims to strengthen the nation's position in the global battery market by fostering domestic innovation, capacity building and sustainable development in materials processing, manufacturing and recycling. The round two selections build on the progress of the previous awards, further address existing and future supply chain challenges and continue to create a strong foundation for reshoring a U.S. battery supply chain and leading the global energy transition.
"Today's announcement addresses critical gaps in the battery and material supply chain by supporting a broader suite of battery components, technologies and critical materials. While ongoing government policy and programs will be necessary to ensure overall success, we applaud DOE for accomplishing another key step in establishing a reliable and secure U.S. battery supply chain," said Holland & Knight Partner Taite McDonald, who led the representation of the clients on behalf of the firm.
The Holland & Knight clients selected for the awards who will now move on to negotiations, among others, were:
- TerraVolta Resources: $225,000,000
- Cirba Solutions: $200,000,000
- Urbix Inc.: $124,638,300
- The Dow Chemical Company: $100,000,000
- NanoGraf: $60,000,000
