Julian Miller and Natasha Halloran, associates in Troutman Pepper’s Consumer Financial Services and Privacy and Cyber Practice Groups, respectively, are among a group of only 20 young attorneys in the U.S. who will participate in the National Bar Association’s Associate Advancement Academy for Excellence as a fellow for 2024-2025. The NBA’s Associate Advancement Academy for Excellence (Academy) provides career advancement experience for Black associates within their first three years of practice and is specifically intended to facilitate the advancement and retention of Black attorneys in the nation’s largest law firms.

The Academy offers educational, networking, mentoring, and pro bono/community service components tailored to advance the careers of Black attorneys early in their legal careers. Fellows participate in monthly educational workshops and networking sessions, monthly mentoring check-ins with a law firm partner mentor and corporate counsel mentor, respectively, and various NBA events throughout the year.

“I am thrilled to be selected as an Academy fellow,” Miller said. “This opportunity will allow me to further develop my skills, build meaningful connections, and contribute to the advancement and retention of Black attorneys in the legal profession.”

“It is an honor to be selected for this year’s Academy,” Halloran added. “I look forward to leveraging the resources and mentorship provided by the Academy to make a positive impact within our firm and the broader legal community.”

The National Bar Association was founded in 1925 and is the nation’s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African American attorneys and judges. The NBA is organized around 23 substantive law sections, 10 divisions, 12 regions, and over 80 affiliate chapters throughout the United States and around the world, including the Young Lawyer Division, Minority Partners in Majority Firms Division, Commercial Law Section, and Corporate Law Section.
