North Dakota AG's office seeks assistant attorney general for consumer protection division

The Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the North Dakota Attorney General’s Office has announced an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant Attorney General. This position offers legal, investigative, and litigation services related to consumer protection and antitrust laws. The selected attorney will represent the Attorney General in civil law enforcement actions before state and federal courts.

"This is an opportunity to do exciting work in a dynamic area of the law," stated Elin S. Alm, Director of the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division. "This position will provide a chance to work on cases that impact local markets and consumers as well as offer an opportunity to work with other states or federal agencies on cases with national scope, impact, and interest."

Key responsibilities include evaluating, preparing, advancing, and concluding consumer protection and antitrust cases through litigation or settlement. The role requires in-person attendance with no option for remote work.

The salary starts at $81,000 annually with increases based on experience. Additional benefits include fully paid health insurance for employees and their families, optional dental and vision insurance, participation in the state NDPERS defined benefit retirement plan, deferred compensation plan options, medical spending accounts, as well as annual and sick leave.

Applicants must be licensed to practice law in North Dakota or expect imminent admission to the North Dakota Bar. Preference is given to those with at least two years of legal experience including litigation experience. Other qualifications include high ethical standards, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, advanced interpersonal skills necessary for working effectively with various stakeholders, strong legal research abilities using tools like Westlaw, time management skills, proficiency in case management software, independent judgment capabilities concerning alleged violations of law among others.

Candidates must undergo successful completion of interviews along with reference checks plus standard background investigations including criminal record checks.
