Deputy clerk job opening announced in Devils Lake

The Clerk of Court Office in Devils Lake, ND, has announced a job opening for the position of Deputy Clerk of District Court. The annual salary for this full-time, regular position is $51,900.00. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM Central on September 18, 2024.

Candidates selected for an interview will be required to take typing and grammar tests. Additional duties include recording court and jury trial proceedings using computer-aided equipment as per state and appellate requirements, taking court notes during hearings, locating and presenting prior testimony, performing clerking duties in the courtroom, administering oaths, marking documents, maintaining logs and other forms. Certification from the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) or a comparable certification by another state or federal court is required within one year of job entry.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and two years of experience within the district court, a law office or related legal setting. Applicants who do not meet these minimum experience requirements may be considered at a training wage after qualified candidates are reviewed.

The Deputy Clerk of District Court will assist other court personnel with case management activities involving criminal, civil, traffic or other cases from initial filing to final disposition. Responsibilities include scheduling court calendars according to directives from the Clerk of Court, reviewing incoming documents for conformity to court procedures and laws, assigning cases to judicial officers according to the district's caseflow plan, recording case proceedings into the Court's case management system, processing court orders and notices according to established procedures, handling financial transactions submitted to the Clerk of Courts Office, providing assistance to public inquiries that do not involve legal advice or confidentiality issues, implementing court procedures during hearings as directed by the Clerk of Court and managing daily cases for each judge attending court sessions.

Other responsibilities involve searching criminal, civil traffic and judgment records; participating in the management of the District Court jury program; ensuring quality control over court records by reviewing files; monitoring various reports so that records are maintained accurately and timely; performing additional duties as required.

Applicants must possess knowledge of general office procedures including grammar and legal terminology. Skills required include effective interpersonal communication adaptable to diverse individuals; proficiency in district court operations; preparing legal documents; understanding statutes/legal terminology; written communication skills for reports/memos/letters preparation; strong attention-to-detail ensuring accuracy in work output; organizational skills prioritizing work efficiently under structured fast-paced conditions while adapting positively towards frequent changes showing initiative/dependability using word processing/specialized software operating office equipment proficiently.
