South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson co-led a brief filed Monday supporting North Carolina laws regulating the prescribing and dispensing of abortion-inducing drugs, such as mifepristone. A coalition of 18 states submitted the brief to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in response to a lawsuit brought by a doctor against North Carolina's regulations.
“I have always been proudly pro-life,” Attorney General Wilson stated. “But this case is also about upholding the law and state sovereignty. The U.S. Supreme Court recognized that states have the authority to regulate abortion when they overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, and these are common-sense regulations on abortion that North Carolina passed.”
The coalition is requesting that the Court of Appeals vacate the District Court’s injunction currently blocking enforcement of North Carolina’s laws.
