Nelson Mullins Partner Larry Kristinik Becomes Chair of ABA Litigation Section

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to announce Columbia partner Larry Kristinik has become chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Litigation Section for the 2024-25 bar year. Kristinik moves into the new role after most recently serving as chair-elect.

“Larry has been a leader at Nelson Mullins and in the legal profession for many years, and we congratulate him on this remarkable recognition,” said Jim Lehman, managing partner of Nelson Mullins. “It is an amazing opportunity to lead the ABA Litigation Section, and we know Larry will do a great job in this important role in the ABA.”

The Litigation Section has more than 30,000 members nationwide and is a significant voice for litigators in the legal profession. The section is one of the largest within the ABA, with more than 30 substantive, procedural, and affinity committees, and serves as the premier association for lawyers in the litigation and trial practice. Its mission is to provide litigators of all practice areas the resources needed to become successful advocates. The section is dedicated to upholding the rule of law, advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to offering its members opportunities for business networking and career advancement and a portfolio of professional and business development products.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as chair of the ABA Litigation Section,” said Kristinik. “The Litigation Section has been a proponent for significant positive change in the litigation practice the last 50 years. We look forward to continuing the tradition of amazing CLE programming, published content, and networking for our members, the advancement of DE&I, service to the legal profession, and the promotion of the rule of law and access to justice.”

Kristinik takes on the chair position after 21 years serving the ABA Litigation Section in various roles, including Budget Office, elected member of the Litigation Section’s Council, and managing director. At Nelson Mullins, he serves as the co-chair of the firm’s national insurance practice group as well as one of the assistant group leaders of the firm’s 500 lawyer Litigation Group. Kristinik’s practice focuses on business litigation, class action defense, insurance coverage and bad faith claims, and the defense of investor securities claims. He received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law.
