The 2024-2025 school year has officially begun for most Louisiana students. While parents often take pictures of their children before their first day, caution is advised against sharing too much personal information on typical ‘back to school signs.’ Such details can be exploited by predators to commit identity theft or gain a child's trust.

Parents are advised to:

- Omit information about the child’s school, teacher, age, or grade level.

- Ensure the photo background does not reveal house numbers or street signs.

- Double-check privacy settings.

- Avoid accepting friend requests from strangers.

“Our most precious gifts are our children, and we all want to do everything we can to keep them safe. As a mom, I’d urge Louisiana parents to take a few simple steps to make sure their child’s personal information never gets into the wrong hands when taking those back-to-school pictures. I hope everyone has a safe and successful school year,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
