SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - Poppi soda drinkers hoping the prebiotic would improve their gut health argue in a class action lawsuit that the opposite occurs.
Megan Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit July 19 against VNGR Beverage, LLC in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
The lawsuit alleges that VNGR misled consumers about the health benefits of its "Poppi" prebiotic soda. Wheeler claims that VNGR's marketing falsely promotes Poppi as beneficial for gut health despite scientific evidence suggesting otherwise.
The complaint alleges that consuming enough Poppi to gain any prebiotic benefit would require drinking multiple cans daily, leading to excessive sugar intake and potential adverse health effects.
Wheeler seeks restitution, damages, and an injunction against VNGR's deceptive practices.
