A Bienville Parish man who evaded capture for 32 years was sentenced for a shooting in Ringgold, Louisiana.

On Thursday, July 18, a judge in Claiborne Parish sentenced Greg Lawson to 45 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections without the benefit of parole. The case was prosecuted by Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office.

The 64-year-old Lawson was captured in Mexico in September 2023 after the FBI New Orleans received a tip. Lawson was accused of attempting to shoot Seth Garlington following a dispute at a gas station in 1991. He absconded from court jurisdiction during jury deliberations for his attempted second-degree murder charge.

Attorney General Liz Murrill commented on the case, stating, “The sentencing of this defendant is a testament to the commitment of our office to seek justice for crime victims no matter the length of time. This victim will finally get justice after more than three decades.”
