Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell issued a statement on July 19, 2024, regarding the passage of a significant gun control bill in Massachusetts. "As our country faces a culture of pervasive gun violence, Massachusetts is taking enormous strides to protect public health and safety," said Campbell.
The newly passed legislation includes several key measures: it prohibits untraceable ghost guns, bans devices that convert guns into automatic weapons, creates provisions to help individuals in crisis from harming themselves or others, and strengthens requirements for obtaining a license to carry firearms.
"This historic measure would not have been possible without the work of Speaker Mariano, Senate President Spilka, Chair Day, and Senator Creem," Campbell added. "I’m proud of the role the AG’s Office had in informing this legislation."
Campbell also acknowledged those affected by gun violence: "And to those whose lives have been directly impacted by gun violence, who have turned their unimaginable pain into purpose, thank you. It’s your stories that have helped shape solutions and will continue to inspire our work."
