Following the attempted assassination of President Trump, which resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore and injuries to two other individuals, America First Legal (AFL) has initiated multiple investigations into the federal government's actions surrounding the incident on July 13, 2024.

The United States Secret Service (USSS), under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), is tasked with protecting key figures including the President, Vice President, their families, former Presidents, and visiting foreign dignitaries. Historically, USSS agents have been recognized for their commitment to this mission.

Reports suggest that requests from USSS components for additional resources to protect former President Donald J. Trump were potentially denied by DHS and USSS leadership. Specifically, requests from the Special Operations Division of the USSS for enhanced resources to secure all protectees may not have been fulfilled.

"The American people deserve to know if such requests were made and rejected anywhere within the broader DHS enterprise," AFL stated. They also emphasized that "the agents within the USSS should have the best available equipment and every resource at their disposal."

AFL criticized what they perceive as a disparity in resource allocation by the Biden Administration since January 20, 2021. They allege significant funds have been directed towards managing illegal immigration rather than ensuring security for USSS protectees.

To uncover more details about these allegations and how DHS responded to Trump's assassination attempt, AFL has filed numerous Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
