The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred in the Village of Caledonia, Wisconsin, on the morning of Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

At approximately 9:47 a.m., officers from the Caledonia Police Department responded to a call about a man down at Cliffside Park. Upon arrival, the subject discharged a firearm. A tactical team comprising law enforcement and first responders from the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, Caledonia Police Department, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Caledonia Fire Department was deployed. Negotiations were attempted with the subject; however, circumstances led to law enforcement using deadly force. Despite life-saving measures being performed, the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other individuals were injured during the incident.

The involved law enforcement officers are currently on administrative leave as per agency policies and were wearing body cameras during the incident.

DCI is leading this investigation with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit, Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All involved law enforcement personnel are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.

DCI continues to review evidence and determine facts related to this incident. The investigative reports will be submitted to the Racine County District Attorney upon conclusion of the investigation.
