NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - The United Nations' stance toward Hamas is blamed for the deaths of several Israelis in a federal lawsuit.
A lawsuit was filed June 24 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by multiple plaintiffs, including the estates of deceased individuals and their surviving family members, against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and several of its current and former senior officials.
The plaintiffs allege that UNRWA provided material support to Hamas, facilitating the group's activities that culminated in a brutal attack on October 7, 2023. This attack resulted in mass casualties, kidnappings, and severe injuries among Israeli civilians.
The plaintiffs argue that UNRWA's actions included allowing Hamas to use its facilities for storing weapons, launching rockets, and indoctrinating children with anti-Israel sentiments.
They claim that these actions directly contributed to Hamas' ability to carry out the attack on October 7. The lawsuit seeks monetary compensation for the injuries and losses suffered by the victims and their families.
