In response to United States Supreme Court’s 5- 4 ruling in Harrington v. Purdue Pharma L.P., Attorney General Anthony G. Brown issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court's ruling today shuts the door on the abusive practice of granting releases in bankruptcy to the wealthy non-bankrupt, a practice that has shielded wrongdoers whose misconduct harms the public. I am proud of the role my office played in objecting to the releases during the Purdue court proceedings. The Supreme Court’s decision ensures that non-debtors cannot shield themselves from taking responsibility through the bankruptcy process. I will continue to pursue wrongdoers who harm Marylanders.”
