Intellectual Property partner Michael Harlin published an article in IPWatchdog titled “Patents in China: Developments in 2024 and What’s to Come.”

This article discusses how China's patent law and practice underwent significant changes at the beginning of this year with the release of revised Implementing Regulations and Patent Examination Guidelines by the State Council and CNIPA. Michael notes that these revisions, effective January 20, 2024, intend to enhance patent quality, increase examination efficiency, and strengthen protection, resulting in changes surrounding the principle of good faith, preliminary examination of utility models, and the impact of Patent Term Extension.
